My latest escapism is listening to stories of the paranormal. I listen on my iPod, which further removes me from the concerns of everyday life. After about 3 weeks of listening, I've become eeked-out to the point of needing a night light. Not all the time...I switch it on when I'm visited during the witch's hour by a shadow-person, an orb of plasma, or a particularly vivid succubus. I'm impressionable. Especially at 3am.
I've learned the medical term for the state of sleep paralysis. Phantomania...that inter-zone between sleep and wakefulness when one's mind is active while the body is still coccooned in sleep. I have yet to experience this state without eventually being made to panic by my rational mind. It's always something...irrational.
